Wedding Preparation: 50% completed

Finally the preparation has reached the half-way mark! 😀

After our trip back to Yamaguchi in January (link here), we went back again this month to decide on the dinner menu and also to collect the invitation cards.

Tell me, what is a wedding celebration without good food? 😉

We attended the hotel’s food tasting event together with Y-chan’s mum, aunt & his younger brother. We were seated according to the dinner course we’ve decided beforehand.

I do not recommend Peach Fizz because it tasted like………. ANTIBIOTICS.

This food tasting event includes a wedding simulation, so that it gives the bride & groom an idea of how the event will be like on their actual day. Then after the 1st half of the simulation, food was served. 🙂

As it was my first time to experience this, everything seems so fresh & interesting!!

It’s because we’ve decided on something better & interesting to be served to all our guests. 😀 😀 😀

Right after the food tasting, we headed to the gift store to research on what is good to present to our guests. Just nice, the store was having a bridal fair that allows visitors to try out a varieties of cakes & seafood items.

In Japanese wedding, guests will receive a bag of goodies called the Hikidemono (引き出物). Depending on the place where the wedding is held, in my case – Yamaguchi, the hikidemono should include 3 items. The main item, cake & seafood related item. With the help of this bridal fair, we managed to list out the items that’s good to be included in the hikidemono. 😀

Do you know that Japanese wedding & Singapore wedding is different in many ways?

1. In Japanese wedding, you only invite guests whom you really know. However, in Singapore’s wedding, people extended their invites to their 大姑妈’s daughter and etc………. to just FILL UP THE SEATS because the hotel charge by per table whereas in Japan, they charge by per person.

2. The hikidemono. I bet you won’t receive this no matter how many times you attend the weddings in Singapore. What you’ll receive from the wedding is wedding favors – i.e. small & compact so that it fits into your handbag.

3. Dressing. In Japan, men wore suits to attend their friend’s / relatives’ wedding. In Singapore?????? Shirt + Jeans (and sometimes, casual blazer).

4. Wedding dinner starts ON TIME in Japan. In Singapore, the invitation card states that ‘Please be seated by 8pm’ but you’ll still see guests slowly STROLL in at 8.20pm.

5. Ang pao. Japanese gives ang pao amount in odd numbers. This is because the amount received by the bride & groom will not be able to ‘split up’. Whereas in Singapore, guests give ang pao according to the hotel, day of the wedding is held and always ends with 8-digit.

These are just some points which I’ve experienced and might be different from what you’ve seen/experienced, not writing this to offend anyone though. 😉

Anyhows, it’s almost the end of February, and March is coming this weekend! Can’t wait for the temperature to rise so that the sakura buds will start to wake-up. 🙂
